Event registration terms and conditions
Please read these terms and conditions carefully before registering to attend an event.
For online events, you should also read our general Terms of Service that govern your use of our websites, online services and applications (including mobile applications).
By registering to attend an event, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.
Event organiser
Unless otherwise stated, the event is organised by Down Syndrome Education International (the “Event Organiser”/ “we”), a UK registered charity no. 1062823, company number 3266266, the registered office of which is at 6 Underley Business Centre, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, LA6 2DY, United Kingdom.

Parties to the agreement
This agreement is between the Event Organiser and the event participants.
If you register for participants other than yourself to attend an event, you are confirming that you have their express permission and that they have consented and agreed to these terms and conditions.
General terms of service applicable to online events
Our general Terms of Service that govern your use of our websites, online services and applications (including mobile applications), apply to online events.
By registering to attend an online event, you are confirming that you agree to these terms.
Registration
To attend an event, you must register via our web site and agree to these terms and conditions.
Fees
If a fee is required for the event, then the fee must be paid at the time of registration.
We accept the payment of fees online using a variety of payment methods that may vary depending on your country of residence.
If a fee is requested, your registration is not complete until payment is successfully completed and authorised by our payment provider.
Participants
You must state the name of each person you wish to register (“Participant”) and provide a valid, current email address for each Participant at the time of registration. We will email event invitations to the Participant email(s) you have specified.
Event description
We provide descriptions of our events on this web site and on linked web sites. We have taken care to describe events as accurately as possible. Despite this, slight variations may occur.
Online events - technical requirements
The technical requirements for online events will be detailed together with descriptions of the event on this web site. By registering for an online event, you are confirming that you understand these requirements and that you may not be able to access the event if your computer/device and/or network connection does not meet these requirements.
Online events - Participant involvement
The options for Participants to communicate with presenters and/or other participants may vary for different online events. The arrangements for Participant involvement will be detailed together with descriptions of the event on this web site.
Where Participants are offered opportunities to engage with presenters and/or other participants, including where opportunities are offered to ask questions, we cannot guarantee that all Participants will be able to engage or that the presenters will be able to answer all questions submitted.
Event recordings
We may record events. If we plan to record an event, we will indicate this alongside descriptions of the event on this web site. By registering to attend an online event, you are confirming that you agree to this recording and to the stated uses of the recording.
Access to event recordings
When events are recorded, we may make these recordings available to Participants and/or others. If we plan to record an event, we will indicate how we plan to share the recordings alongside descriptions of the event on this web site.
Where we plan to make event recordings available, we will endeavour to ensure these recordings are completed successfully and made available within 1 week of the event ending. You acknowledge that, despite our best efforts, it is possible that technical problems will result in some recordings being unsuccessful.
Where we make event recordings available after an event, we will usually do so only for a limited time. This will be stated alongside descriptions of the event on this web site.
Copyright
Unless otherwise stated, all presentations, handouts/downloads, chat transcripts, recordings, and any other content, digital or otherwise, of our events is copyrighted. The copyrights may be held by us, associated organisations or the presenters involved in the event.
Unless explicitly stated, you may not copy, reproduce, republish, disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer, download, post, broadcast, transmit, make available to the public, or otherwise use content from our events or any of our services in any way except for your own personal, non-commercial use.
Recording online events
You are not permitted to record online presentations by any means. Nor are you permitted to record the later playback of event recordings (see below).
Privacy and data protection
Your privacy is important to us and we take careful steps to ensure your privacy is respected and that your personal data is protected.

Please note that your participation in events may involve the disclosure of private information - for example, when asking questions about circumstances personal to you. If you do not wish to share information with other event participants, please do not divulge it during the event. Where you communicate information relating to others (including your own family and children and families you work with, as applicable), please ensure that you have their permission to do so.
Cancellation
You can cancel your event registration at any time prior to the event.
If you wish to cancel an event registration, you should email events@dseinternational.org confirming the details of your registration and your wish to cancel.
You may also write to us at the address provided above.
Refunds of fees
If you cancel an event registration for which fees were paid, we will refund fees as follows, (unless any other regulations require otherwise):
- For registrations cancelled at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the event, we will refund 90% of the fee paid.
- For registrations cancelled at least 7 days prior to the beginning of the event, we will refund 70% of the fee paid.
- For registrations cancelled at least 72 hours prior to the beginning of the event, we will refund 50% of the fee paid.
We are unable to refund fees for registrations cancelled less than 72 hours before the event.
Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013
The provisions of the Consumer Contracts Regulations (the “Consumer Contracts Regulations”) may apply to an event registration, where:
- the fee charged is GBP £42.00 or more; and
- where the person registering one or more Participant(s) is acting for purposes which are wholly or mainly outside that individual's trade, business, craft or profession
Where the Consumer Contracts Regulations apply, you have the right to cancel at any time within 14 days of completing your registration and to receive a full refund. To exercise this right, you must inform us in writing of your decision to cancel your registration. You can do this by emailing us at events@dseinternational.org.
If you cancel an event registration to which the Consumer Contracts Regulations apply, within 14 days of registration, then we will refund any fees paid in full within 14 days from the date of your cancellation.
If the event that you have registered for takes place within 14 days of your registration and you attend all or part of the event, then you are no longer entitled to a refund.
After 14 days from registration, where the Consumer Contracts Regulations have applied, our standard cancellation and refunds terms apply.
Assignment
This agreement is personal to you (and any other Participants) and your rights and obligations (and those of any other Participants) under these terms and conditions may not be assigned, sub-licensed or otherwise transferred.
Force Majeure
The Event Organiser will not be liable or deemed to be in default for any delay or failure in performance or interruption of the delivery of goods and/or services resulting directly or indirectly from any cause or circumstance beyond its or their reasonable control, including but not limited to failure of electronic or mechanical equipment or communication lines, telephone or other interconnect problems, computer viruses, unauthorised access, theft, operator errors, severe weather, earthquakes or natural disasters, strikes or other labour problems, wars, or governmental restrictions.
Non-waiver
The failure or delay of Event Organiser to exercise or enforce any right in these terms does not waive their right to enforce that right.
Severability/Survival
If any of these terms are determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable by reason of the laws of any state or country in which these terms are intended to be effective, then to the extent and within the jurisdiction in which that term is illegal, invalid or unenforceable, it shall be severed and deleted from these terms and the remaining terms shall survive and continue to be binding and enforceable.
Statute of Limitations
Any cause of action of yours with respect to these terms and conditions must be filed in a court of competent jurisdiction in London, England, within one year after the cause of action has arisen, or such cause will be barred, invalid, and void.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These terms and conditions shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, English law. The parties irrevocably agree that the courts of England shall (subject to the paragraph below) have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute which may arise out of, under, or in connection with these terms and conditions or the legal relationship established by them, and for those purposes irrevocably submit all disputes to the jurisdiction of the English courts.
For the exclusive benefit of Down Syndrome Education International, we retain the right to bring proceedings as to the substance of the matter in the courts of the country of your residence or, where these terms and conditions are entered into in the course of your trade or profession, the country of your principal place of business.
