What are the technical requirements for accessing DSE's online courses?

Our online courses are accessible via the Internet using any modern web browser running on Windows and macOS devices.

Devices and operating systems

Our online training system works best on Windows and Mac computers. It is mostly accessible via Android and iPad tablets, but the experience is not as good.

Software

We recommend using the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari web browsers available for your operating system.

Using the latest version of your chosen browser provides compatibility with the latest web standards and provides the best defence against software and hardware vulnerabilities that might compromise your online security.

We also recommend you use a high speed internet connection when streaming video presentations. You will need a device with speakers or headphones to listen to the pre-recorded presentations.

Our handouts, reference lists and checklists/handouts are provided in PDF format. There are a variety of applications that will read PDF documents for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.

Internet connection

The video presentations in our online courses are streamed on-demand. The streaming should adjust to differing bandwidths, offering a clearer picture on faster Internet connections while still supporting slower connections by compressing the video stream (and reducing the clarity of the picture). However, the videos do require a reliable minimum bandwidth for playback.

Our recommendations for video playback are:

Sometimes, you may experience intermittent problems with your Internet connection - or contention with other users on your network segment - which may disturb video playback. Unfortunately, these problems are outside our control and you should seek advice from your Internet provider.
